Jerry Amsterdam
Jerry Charlton Meye (1965) operates under the pseudonym ‘Jerry Amsterdam’. A textile designer for twenty years, has been creating linocuts, monoprints, and woodcuts since the lockdown. His ornaments and stencils explode into abstract prints in a palette of colors, transitioning from geometry to balance. His drawings, cut from perspex, applied in acrylic, and printed multiple times on various types of paper, suggest movement. They shift from being more expressive to lighter, almost watercolor-like. The white areas draw the ornaments into depth, and the colors flow with sweeping movements, contrasting with fine to coarse hatching. He achieves thickness through multiple layers, sometimes printed wet-on-wet. Meye strives for perfection, and even though he works intuitively, he leaves nothing to chance.

EVENT LOG
An exhaustive review of Jerry Charlton Meije’s complete portfolio, event logs, and history provides a single comprehensive, chronologically updated list of all his artistic exhibitions and showcase milestones:
1. Café de Balie, Amsterdam (March 2022)
-
The Milestone: This was Jerry’s definitive debut solo exhibition marking his public transition from a 20-year career as a textile designer to a fine artist.
-
The Work: Having used the pandemic lockdown to experiment with linocuts, monotypes, and woodcuts while on leave from his job at the music venue Paradiso, he presented an explosion of abstract, colorful prints.
The pieces utilized perspex-carved lines and multi-layered printing to create dense, organic depths reminiscent of an abstract jungle.
2. Pension Homeland, Amsterdam (February 2024 – August 2024)
-
The Opening (February 2024):
A highly successful exhibition located in Amsterdam’s historic naval terrain (Mariniersorrein). Focused deeply on the tactile craftsmanship of linocuts and woodcuts, it was both a commercial and community success, selling over half of the exhibited catalog on its opening run. The atmosphere was elevated with live music provided by The Men From Oz (a live DJ and saxophonist duo). -
The Season Final Event (August 11, 2024): To wrap up his major seasonal run at Homeland, Jerry hosted a festive closing finissage featuring a celebration of abstract bold colors paired with drinks, snacks, and a soul/disco/jazz musical mix.
3. Café de Koe, Amsterdam (March 2024)
-
The Milestone: Opened on March 23, 2024, this show immediate followed his Homeland success.
-
The Evolution: Here, Jerry debuted a major evolutionary leap in style. He moved past flat linocut stencils and line play into canvases treated with thick palette-knife acrylic applications, juxtaposed with delicate, dreamy, sponge-applied watercolor techniques and calligraphic brushwork.
4. Coffeecompany Kinkerstraat, Amsterdam (Late 2024)
-
The Showcase: An exhibition embedded right into the daily hub of Amsterdam’s neighborhood culture. This showcase integrated his multi-layered geometric works and texture-heavy patterns into a lively community space.
5. P60 Cultural Venue, Amstelveen (February 2025 – May 2025)
Jerry held an extensive residency and exhibition footprint at the P60 cultural center, consisting of three major anchor events:
